And it then frustrates me when people say "oh, I didn't like that movie" simply because it let their numbed hopes down. when I say I don't like a movie, it's because I failed to see a point in it being a film at all, or it actually offended me in one way or another.
So please, do yourself, and myself a favor. Stop numbing yourself to so much mindless entertainment all the time and realize the art that you should be appreciating films on the big screen more.
People put their life into this stuff.
Don't you go off like the rest of the entire freakin' world and diss it.
Don't go being the sad little rain cloud on someone's sunny day - other people might be really excited about seeing that movie, and that person's other friends might have actually liked it and recommended it instead of dissing it for not fulfilling their need for a mindless entertainment.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's because I know that when I have a concert I'd like my friends to come and at least TRY to like it. Maybe it's because I put soo much of my life and energy and all of my emotions into music. That's weird, you might think, but all the same - it is art.
Get used to it.
Get over yourself.
Take a chill pill, maybe try to put yourself in their shoes for once in your life. -- and don't ruin it for the rest of us who might actually be excited at the potential of spending $8 that they really don't have to see a movie that they've been looking forward to for a long time and don't get to go to movies in the theater every passing fancy that comes their way.
I've been there. I've been able to numb myself with mindless entertainment for hours. Sitting in front of the TV, allowing my brain to act as if it's asleep. Yet all the while continuing to ruin my vision with the flashing lights, and destroying any sort of innocence in my brain that is left with all the crude jokes and mindless killings.
I've also been able to numb myself to seeing movies on the silver screen. And it becomes boring and absolutely nothing special. It becomes standard. If it's not on the big screen, and with a big sound and with a good view, it's not good. It's lame. It's boring. I'll take a nap, thank-you-very-much.
But seriously. Think about it. Not many people in the world get to see movies on the big screen. If they do, probably not very often. Seriously. Think about it. I, personally, haven't seen a movie in theaters since... Sherlock Holmes. And even when I saw it, the friends I went with had already seen it - so it was already mindless entertainment for them. I mean, they obviously liked it enough to see it in theaters again, but shouldn't it be good enough just to see it at all?
I personally wouldn't like to think that I'm wasting 8, 16, 24, 150, 300 a year on just going to movies over and over again every year. Seems like a complete waste of money. (seems like it? ha! that's a joke... it is).
Yes, I will be completely honest that I have gone to films more than once - most often to please friends who haven't seen it yet because I'm that kind of person - I want my friends to be happy, and I'm willing to sacrifice my own personal happiness and ever lowering bank account for their enjoyment for a few hours.
However, most of those films I have gone to more than once are because they (or at least in my humble opinion) were good films, beautiful works of art that should be appreciated and watched again.
But, then again, maybe that is simply because I have restrained myself from becoming numb to other forms of mindless entertainment and have therefore not taken the silver screen for granted.
